Raw Material Weighing Operator

Location:        New Germany Site

Type:                Fixed Term Contract

Duration:        6 Months

Closing:          12th January 2026

Reports to:    Operations Leader

Job Summary:

 

Supports manufacturing operations by accurately weighing and preparing raw materials for the production of emulsion polymers (coatings industry). Handles a wide range of solid and liquid chemicals, including hazardous, toxic, and flammable substances, in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and GMP (IFA/FC) requirements. Ensures correct identification, weighing and documentation. Performs basic equipment checks, maintains a high standard of housekeeping, and strictly follows EH&S, quality and GMP procedures. May be required to assist in other production areas as needed to support business requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

 

Raw Material Weighing & Preparation

 

  • Weigh solids and liquids according to batch cards/SOPs using calibrated scales.

  • Verify material identity (name, code, batch, hazard labels) before weighing.

  • Stage, label and transfer prepared materials to the correct area to support production flow.

 

Bulk Offloading & Transfer

​

  • Perform offloading bulk chemicals (ammonia, caustic, monomers, etc.) from tankers to storage/day tanks.

  • Perform pre-offload checks (tank capacity, lines, valves, earthing, PPE, spill kits) and monitor the operation.

  • Complete offloading checklists/logs to ensure full traceability.

 

Equipment & Material Handling

 

  • Operate weighing equipment, pallet jacks and, forklifts (FLT) for safe material movement.

  • Conduct basic pre-use checks and report equipment defects.

  • Keep weighing and offloading equipment clean and in good working order.

 

Documentation, Quality & Compliance

 

  • Accurately complete weigh sheets, batch cards and system entries (e.g. SAP or ERP).

  • Record lot numbers and quantities in line with ISO and GMP requirements.

  • Follow SDS, EH&S rules, permits and GMP/housekeeping standards, and report deviations, near misses and spills.

 

Housekeeping & Teamwork

 

  • Maintain a clean, organised weighing and offloading area (5S).

  • Cooperate with Production, QC, Logistics and EH&S to resolve material issues and avoid delays.

  • Support training of new operators and participate in toolbox talks/audits where required.

 

Education/Qualification Requirement:

 

  • Minimum: Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent, preferably with Mathematics and Physical Science.

  • Advantageous: NQF Level 3–4 qualification in Chemical Operations, Process Plant Operations or related field.

 

Experience Requirements

 

  • 1–3 years’ experience in a chemical, coatings, plastics, or related manufacturing environment, preferably in raw material weighing, warehousing or batch preparation.

  • Experience working with hazardous, toxic and flammable chemicals, including strict adherence to PPE and safety procedures.

  • Exposure to ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and/or GMP environments is advantageous.

  • Experience with bulk chemical offloading (e.g., ammonia, caustic, monomers) will be an added advantage.

  • Valid forklift (FLT) license and experience operating material-handling equipment is highly beneficial.

  • Familiarity with basic computer systems or ERP (e.g., SAP/ONEERP) and barcode scanners for material tracking is advantageous.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

Location:        New Germany Site

Type:                Fixed Term Contract

Duration:        6 Months

Closing:          12th January 2026

Reports to:    Operations Leader

Job Summary:

 

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the on-site wastewater treatment plant handling white water from the manufacturing process. Operates coagulation and filtration systems (including chemical dosing with aluminium sulphate, Rheofloc, etc.), filter press and associated equipment to separate clear water and solids (“white cake”). Conducts or supports wastewater and storm water checks, maintains accurate records and ensures treated water complies with municipal discharge limits in coordination with the QC lab. Supports FLT activities, bund management, safety equipment checks and general administrative tasks in line with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and applicable environmental and waste regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

 

Plant Operation & Monitoring

 

  • Operate and monitor the wastewater treatment plant (coagulation tanks, effluent basin, mixers, pumps, valves, filter press and associated equipment) according to SOPs.

  • Adjust chemical dosing (aluminium sulphate, Rheofloc and other treatment chemicals) to maintain effective coagulation, separation and compliance with operating parameters.

  • Monitor flows, levels, equipment condition and general plant performance; promptly report deviations and maintenance needs.

  • Monitor and support the activities of personnel working in and around the WWTP to ensure safe and compliant operation.

Water, Wastewater & Storm Water Quality

 

  • Take wastewater samples for QC analysis (e.g. pH, sulphates, COD and other parameters as required) and ensure timely submission to the lab.

  • Conduct or support basic wastewater and storm water checks as per procedures, including after rain events.

  • Record all relevant data on log sheets and spreadsheets daily (plant readings, sampling, analysis results, storm water observations, safety shower/alarm tests, etc.).

  • Review WWTP consumables (chemicals, PPE, sampling and test materials) regularly and request replenishment when required.

 

Filter Press, Sludge & Waste Handling

 

  • Operate the filter press safely and efficiently to separate clear water and solids (white cake).

  • Clean filter press plates at the required frequency to maintain performance and prevent blockages.

  • Review, record and report waste on the waste slab, coordinating with approved waste contractors for removal and disposal at licensed landfill sites.

​

Bunds, Containment & Safety Equipment

 

  • Perform weekly (and post-rain) inspections of bunds, sumps and containment areas; record levels, arrange emptying and report any integrity or maintenance issues.

  • Inspect and test WWTP safety showers and alarms on a weekly basis; record results on the log sheet and escalate defects.

  • Support storm water analysis and redirection in accordance with site environmental procedures.

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in and around the WWTP, bunds and waste areas.

 

FLT & Material Handling

 

  • Drive a forklift (FLT) to move chemicals, pallets, waste containers, mini-skips and other materials safely around the site.

  • Conduct basic FLT pre-use checks and operate in line with site traffic rules and EH&S standards.

Documentation, Administration & Support

 

  • Complete log sheets, checklists, waste tracking records and spreadsheets accurately and on time.

  • Provide basic administrative support for WWTP records, reports and requisitions (consumables, maintenance requests, skip changes, etc.).

  • Follow EH&S, ISO and environmental procedures, including PPE, permits and lockout/tagout where applicable.

  • May act as an informal resource for new or less experienced operators in the wastewater area and may be required to assist in other production areas as needed to support business requirements.

 

Education/Qualification Requirement:

 

  • Minimum: Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent, preferably with Mathematics and Physical Science.

  • Advantageous: NQF Level 3–4 qualification in Chemical Operations, Process Plant Operations or related field.

 

Experience Requirements

 

  • 1–3 years’ experience in wastewater treatment, utilities, chemical processing or similar industrial environment.

  • Experience working with chemicals and waste streams in an ISO and/or environmentally regulated facility.

  • Valid FLT license and proven experience in safe material handling.

 

Special Characteristics/Knowledge:

 

  • Solid knowledge of wastewater treatment processes (coagulation, filtration, sludge handling) and basic water/wastewater analysis concepts (pH, COD, sulphates, etc.).

  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel (for logs, spreadsheets and basic data analysis).

  • Able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

  • Able to work independently and take initiative within defined procedures and standards.
